Most everyone has heard of Cancun, Mexico buy not as many may be familiar with Cabo San Lucas. I love Cabo! It is a desert climate located on the Baja Peninsula of Mexico. My husband and I recently traveled there for an Anniversary trip over the winter and we LOVED IT!! Here are some things we love about the destination:
- Warm weather- Living in Indiana, we are always looking for warmer weather to escape to over the winter. It's location is much further south than Cancun which lends itself well for a winter getaway. It is a desert climate so we find that the humidity in the winter is much less. As you approach the summer months, the humidity goes way up.
- Arches - The arches provide an iconic backdrop and is perfect for excursions. There is so much to do from sunset cruises and whale watching. We did the sunset cruise and it was perfect!
- Unique excursions - Travelers that have been to several tropical destinations are familiar with many of the typical excursions that are offered in the Caribbean such as snorkeling and zip-lining. Cabo has so much more to offer with their dessert typography. Some of the more unique desert offerings include ATV rides and Camel encounters. In addition to snorkeling and zip-lining other water excursions available are whale watching, catamaran rides, and dolphin encounters.
- Whales - The Baja California Peninsula separates the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific. This creates the perfect conditions for whale breeding. Whale watching season is mid December to mid April. Late January through February and into March is when females start calving, so you will have a greater chance of seeing baby whales. The later in the season you go whale watching in Mexico the more active the babies will be as they grow stronger and become more active.
- Service - I have traveled to numerous sunny locations and I can say that I always have great experiences with service while visiting Mexico. Their culture and service is top notch. Plus they make great mojitos in Mexico!
- Turtles - While walking on the beach we saw so many sea turtle nests. One morning we happen to come upon watching turtles actually hatch. It was such an amazing experience! We met a gentleman that works with the city to release turtles and he encouraged us to help. In the US they don't want you to touch the turtles but they actually wanted us to help them. Late August till early December is considered turtle hatching season. So if this is something you want to experience, you should visit then.
